Teaser Tuesday: Elizabeth Strout’s Amy & Isabelle

TEASER TUESDAYS is hosted by MizB at Should be Reading. The idea is to share a couple of “teaser” sentences from a random page in your current read. This week I’m reading Elizabeth Strout’s Amy & Isabelle, a mother-and-daughter story focused on their relationship during the teenage daughter’s emerging sexuality.  It’s fraught with all the tension and secrecy you can imagine!  Here’s my teaser:

Amy stayed where she was, at her desk, thinking of Mr. Robertson.  Isabelle, almost nauseated from her lack of sleep, stood in the ladies’ room, pressing a wet paper towel to her face, and was unable to think of anything except for the words her daughter had spoken last night when Isabelle asked what Stacy would do with the baby:  Oh, give it away, I guess.
